Cold process bar soap is a solid soap made without applying any external heat. It is created by mixing sodium hydroxide lye, pure water and natural oils like olive oil and coconut oil. This sparks a chemical reaction called Saponification which causes the mixture to turn into soap. During the saponification process, Glycerine and Soap are created. Glycerine is a precious emollient that softens and maintains water balance by attracting moisture to your skin. The cold process soaps are made at room temperature with no additional heat to speed up the saponification, so they will be left at room temperature (cured) for 4 to 6 weeks for all the lye to transform into soap. Kanhode soaps are cured for at least 6 weeks for gentle and long-lasting soaps of the highest quality.
The cold process method allows all the ingredients’ benefits to be preserved without heat damage, leaving the purest natural properties to directly soothe our skin. This ancestral technique requires tremendous time and patience, as a result, the soaps are usually handmade in small batches. Soaps sold by Kanhode are made with natural ingredients and contain no artificial or harsh additives. Additionally, all bars are hand prepared, hand-cut, inspected and packaged individually to ensure you receive the top-notch quality that you deserve.
